I need to move. Now what?

Spread the word! You'll need to notify people and institutions that you are moving. Here are some of them:
  • United States Postal Service
  • Magazines and other publications
  • Credit card companies
  • Utilities
  • Delivery services
  • Service companies
  • Financial Institutions
  • Schools
  • Medical professionals
  • Insurance providers
  • Civic, religious, and charitable organizations
  • Veterinarian
How will the cost of my move be calculated?
An estimate of cost begins with the type of move you are performing: local, intrastate, or interstate. 

If the move is local, the estimator performs a walkthrough of your home, business, or other location and determines the size of your move, the number of movers needed, and the number of hours required to perform the service and any additional services requested. The estimator then provides you with an estimate.

If the move is intrastate or interstate, the estimator performs a walkthrough of your home, business, or other location and arrives at an estimated weight and additional services needed, and from that an estimate is provided.

Additional services would be packing, crating, cargo insurance, or any other additional services such as these that you may require.

How can I reduce the cost?
To save money, you may want to reduce the number of items that you are moving. Look through your belongings and see what you might not want to move. Ask yourself whether some of the following items should make the trip to your new home:
  • Furniture
  • Draperies, curtains, and rugs
  • Kitchen supplies
  • Clothes
  • Outdoor equipment
After you finish sorting through your belongings, take stock of the items you are not going to move. If you give them to a charity, make sure that you get a receipt for tax purposes. You may also want to have a yard sale or garage sale to dispose of these items and make a little extra money.
Can I get an estimate of the cost?

Why is there so much paperwork?
By law and for your protection, we are required to complete specific paperwork throughout your move and to provide you with additional paperwork to complete. This paperwork includes:
  • The brochure “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move”
  • Written estimate
  • An addendum, if there is a change to your written estimate
  • Bill of Lading, which is the actual contract between us
  • In-Home Pre-Existing Inspection Report, which provides you the security of knowing that we protected your old home and new home during the moving process
  • Inventory forms detailing all items included in your shipment
  • High Value Inventory forms listing items of extraordinary value
  • Delivery Report
Are there any items that you cannot move?
Yes. There are many items that we cannot transport safely and some that we cannot transport legally. Among them are:
  • Perishable food items
  • Any open containers
  • Household cleaning products
  • Batteries
  • Vinegar
  • Soda, beer, champagne, and opened bottles of wine or alcohol
  • Ammonia
  • Bleach
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Laundry detergents
  • Combustible or corrosive liquids
  • Explosives
  • Flammable materials
  • Compressed gases
  • Pets
  • Propane tanks of any kind, whether they are purged or not
 What will happen at my new home?
The driver delivering your belongings is required by law to collect the charges for your shipment before it can be unloaded.

The driver and crew will protect your new home in the same manner they protected your old home. The driver will provide you with your original inventory forms. You must check off your belongings on the inventory as they are brought into your new home to ensure that all of your possessions are delivered. If there are any items missing or if there is damage to any item, make sure that you note it on the inventory form.

The crews are responsible for re-assembling certain items that we disassembled at your old home. They will also lay your rugs, place your furniture where you request, and remove all furniture pads. If you paid for unpacking, the crew will take items out of the cartons and remove the unpacked cartons. We are not responsible, however, for putting items in drawers or cabinets, filling waterbeds, or installing or attaching any appliances or fixtures.

What if something is damaged in the move?

Be assured that we will do everything we can to prevent any damage to any item. However, if something is damaged, you should file a claim as soon as you discover the damage. Click here to download the claim form.

What form of payment can I use?

We cannot accept personal checks; therefore, make sure that you have cash, a certified (bank) check, or a money order ready. On long distance moves, we are happy to accept most major credit cards. You should check with us before you receive your estimate to ensure that your credit card is accepted.
